After winning an Instagram giveaway, I tried the Daily Harvest Blood Sugar Friendly Collection created by Lauren Bongiorno of the type 1 diabetes health coaching company Risely Health and Bridget Wood, RDN, and Certified Diabetes Educator.
I’d wanted to try Daily Harvest for a while, so this was the perfect opportunity to break into the food subscription service and try a collection tailored to my personal needs as a person with type 1 diabetes!
Peep this delicious variety!
The Blood Sugar Friendly Collection from Daily Harvest comprises nine items:
White Bean & Spinach Pesto Pasta
Cold Brew & Cacao Smoothie
Blueberry & Hemp Smoothie
Tomato & Zucchini Minestrone Soup
Brussel Sprouts & Sesame Harvest Bowl
Hazelnut & Chocolate Bites
Cauliflower Rice & Pesto Harvest Bowl
Vanilla Bean & Apple Chia Bowl
Broccoli & Cheese Harvest Bowl
Having a sweet tooth, you know your girl immediately dove into the Hazelnut & Chocolate Bites! And let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The avocado might’ve been the MVP of this recipe. These bites practically melted in my mouth and somehow still felt ultra-nourishing!
Beyond giving me a delicious sweet treat to sink my teeth into, I loved Daily Harvest and this collection for several reasons.
Let me tell you more about why I love this meal delivery service…
Clean & fresh ingredients
I’m super happy with the ingredients included in every Daily Harvest dish so far. I am always looking for recipes that focus on using whole foods. There’s no denying that my body feels better when I eat recipes that use them. Not to mention, my blood sugars also reap the benefits!
I tend to find less deviation in my time in range and blood sugar stability when I eat meals that feature high-quality, clean ingredients like Daily Harvest’s Blood Sugar Friendly Collection does.
Low-carb is more manageable at lunchtime during workdays
While I believe there’s room for all foods in a life with diabetes and carbs aren’t off limits, I can’t deny that low-carb foods are also friendlier with my blood sugar levels during the weekdays. I believe in an “everything in moderation” approach when it comes to my personal type 1 diabetes management.
At lunchtime on workdays, grabbing low-carb foods helps keep my blood sugars stable. Sitting is not my blood sugar levels’ friend, but Daily Harvest proved to be!
Everything goes in the freezer
I’ve tried other meal kits and haven’t loved them, so I don’t share my rave review for Daily Harvest lightly. I didn’t know what to expect when I received my first box, but I loved that everything went in the freezer. One issue I had with meal kits in the past, which I’d compare Daily Harvest to, was the ingredients spoiling before I got the chance to eat them or the quality of the ingredients was lacking — a huge bummer in terms of food and financial waste!
I didn’t notice that with any of my Daily Harvest products.
Daily Harvest is a time-saver
Unlike meal kits, everything with Daily Harvest just requires a little microwave, blender, or stovetop action. Other meal kits promised they wouldn’t take much time to produce but failed to deliver. This made me realize convenience was huge for me when selecting or sticking with a new meal delivery service! Since trying the Blood Sugar Friendly Collection, I’ve become a Daily Harvest subscriber. I appreciate the monthly plan, which best supplements my other meal planning and grocery shopping.
For those constantly on the go or don’t have enough time to eat lunch throughout the day, the service is a huge time-saver! And I will take all the support I can get there, too.
Choose your protein independently
Daily Harvest kits are vegetarian and vegan friendly, meaning you won’t find meats in your meals. I actually prefer it this way because I like picking out meats myself. This ensures freshness and allows you to mix and match your proteins with different Daily Harvest bowls and pasta.
Mix it up and throw some tofu or beans in your recipes! I’ve also used salmon and chicken to complement this collection. If you’re stuck for ideas, Daily Harvest gives protein pairing advice on their website.
You get to decide your delivery schedule
Because Daily Harvest collections stay fresh in the freezer for a while, having the ability to select your delivery schedule is extremely valuable. This is especially useful if you try collections with more than nine items. There might be months when you and your family run through your items faster, and there could be others when you take more time.
Whatever your personal schedule, you can decide on a delivery schedule that matches your preferences. Daily Harvest lets you skip or pause orders if necessary or get deliveries faster if you gobble things up! Again, I appreciate the flexibility.
Not to mention, I find this setup incredibly realistic, as it’s designed to supplement other ingredients you’re buying at the grocery store in a given week or month.
Daily Harvest checks many boxes for what I look for in a meal delivery service!
